DIC_ROCK_ALL (3677 rows)
Dictionary table based on the entire version 3 of the BGS Rock Classification Scheme and is populated directly from the 3 supplying tables (BGS.ROCK_NAME_V3, BGS.ROCK_COMPOSITE and BGS.DIC_ROCK_DUMMY). It contains both the base rock names and addditional codes required for specific application, eg. composite names for use on digital geological maps. It is formally approved as the official source of ALL database codes to be used in BGS corporate databases and MUST be followed.

| 3504 | WEBS | RN | Websterite - A type of pyroxenite (s.s.) in which orthopyroxene and clinopyroxene are both present in significant proportion. In the Rock Classification Scheme, it is a pyroxenite with olivine <5%, clinopyroxene 5 - 90% and orthopyroxene 5 - 90% of olivine + orthopyroxene + clinopyroxene. | 3508 | WRC | RN | Weathered rock - A type of regolith. It consists of weathered material which, depending on degree of disintegration, may be described in terms of rock material weathering grades II (slightly weathered), III (moderately weathered), IV (highly weathered), V (completely weathered), or VI (residual soil). In engineering geology terms, slightly to moderately weathered material falling into weathering grades II and III are considered as weathered rock for engineering purposes, and grades IV to VI as soil. Saprolite refers to soil-like grade IV and V material which has been altered and decomposed by chemical weathering processes. | 3509 | WRCI | RN | Weathered-grade I rock - A type of weathered rock. Fresh, no visible sign of rock material weathering. Perhaps slight discolouration on major discontinuity surfaces. British Geological Survey Research Report RR/99/04, table 12. | Weathered-grade I rock | C | AWEL | 27-APR-00 | TMCM | 13-MAR-19 | R | |
| 3510 | WRCII | RN | Weathered-grade II rock - A type of weathered rock. Slightly weathered. Discolouration indicates weathering of rock material and discontinuity surfaces. All the rock material may be discoloured by weathering. British Geological Survey Research Report RR/99/04, table 12. | Weathered-grade II rock | C | GRBA | 24-FEB-00 | TMCM | 13-MAR-19 | R | |
| 3511 | WRCIII | RN | Weathered-grade III rock - A type of weathered rock. Moderately weathered. Less than half of the rock material is decomposed or disintegrated to a soil. Fresh or discoloured rock is present either as a continuous framework or as corestones. British Geological Survey Research Report RR/99/04, table 12. | Weathered-grade III rock | C | AWEL | 27-APR-00 | TMCM | 13-MAR-19 | R | |
| 3512 | WRCIV | RN | Weathered-grade IV rock - A type of weathered rock. Highly weathered. More than half of the rock material is decomposed or disintegrated to a soil. Fresh or discoloured rock is present either as a continuous framework or as corestones. | 3513 | WRCV | RN | Weathered-grade V rock - A type of weathered rock. Completely weathered. All rock material is decomposed and/or disintegrated to soil. The original mass structure is still largely intact. British Geological Survey Research Report RR/99/04, table 12. | Weathered-grade V rock | C | GRBA | 24-FEB-00 | TMCM | 13-MAR-19 | R | |
| 3514 | WRCVI | RN | Weathered-grade VI rock - A type of weathered rock. Residual soil. All rock material is converted to soil. The mass structure and material fabric are destroyed. There is a large change in volume, but the soil has not been significantly transported.
