DIC_ROCK_ALL (3677 rows)
Dictionary table based on the entire version 3 of the BGS Rock Classification Scheme and is populated directly from the 3 supplying tables (BGS.ROCK_NAME_V3, BGS.ROCK_COMPOSITE and BGS.DIC_ROCK_DUMMY). It contains both the base rock names and addditional codes required for specific application, eg. composite names for use on digital geological maps. It is formally approved as the official source of ALL database codes to be used in BGS corporate databases and MUST be followed.

| 606 | DI | RN | Diorite - A type of dioritic-rock. In the Rock Classification Scheme, it is a coarse-grained crystalline igneous rock whose mineral mode plots in field 10 of the quartz - alkali feldspar - plagioclase - feldspathoid (QAPF) diagram. Diorite, gabbro and anorthosite are separated according to the average composition of their plagioclase and the proportion of mafic minerals (M): if M is greater than 10% and An (the anorthite content of plagioclase) is less than 50% the rock is diorite. British Geological Survey Research Report RR/99/06, section 5.1 and figs. 9, 11, 12. | Diorite | C | GRBA | 24-FEB-00 | TMCM | 22-FEB-19 | R | |
| 607 | DIAMIT | RN | Diamictite - A type of siliciclastic sediment and sedimentary rock. Sedimentary rocks that are poorly sorted and contain a wide range of clast sizes can be given this root name. The strict descriptive definition relates to range of particle size and not to relative abundance of any or all size classes. These rock types therefore traverse the boundary of siliciclastic rudaceous, arenaceous and argillaceous sedimentary rocks. This is the consolidated equivalent of diamicton. British Geological Survey Research Report RR/99/03, section 2 and figs. 2, 3 and 5. | Diamictite | C | GRBA | 24-FEB-00 | TMCM | 08-MAR-19 | R | |
| 608 | DIAOOZ | RN | Diatomaceous-ooze - A type of siliceous-ooze which is predominantly composed of diatoms. It is the unlithified equivalent of diatomite.
