| Definition of Lower Boundary: | Transitional with the Dundee Flagstone and Ochil Volcanic Formations in the Dundee-Arbroath area, and transitional with the Craighall Conglomerate Formation in the Blairgowrie area. | ||
| Definition of Upper Boundary: | The base of Cromlix Mudstone Formation. | ||
| Thickness: | Locally over 2000 m thick. | ||
| Geographical Limits: | The Strathmore Syncline, in the northern part of the Midland Valley of Scotland. | ||
