Age range: Early Devonian Epoch (DL) — Early Devonian Epoch (DL)
Lithological Description: Conglomerate, shale, sandstone and siltstone, with intercalated andesitic and rhyolitic lava and ash, and thin chert bands. Comprises entire Old Red Sandstone of Bogie outlier, and possibly also the Cabrach outlier.
Definition of Lower Boundary: Unconformity on Dalradian metasediments and Caledonian plutonic rocks.
Definition of Upper Boundary: Removed by erosion.
Thickness: 970 metres in type localities for each formation; maximum thickness probably 2100 metres in Kildrummy (NJ 46 18) area.
Geographical Limits: Grampian Highlands, Scotland.
