| Lithological Description: |
Comprises up to 20 m or more of sand and gravel forming a beaded ridge that extends discontinuously for about 55 km in a north-north-west - south-south-east direction from the Thirsk area in the north to Aldwark in the south. At its southern end it terminates as a delta deposit in the Alne pro-glacial lake. South of this the Poppleton Glaciofluvial Member and the Crockey Hill Esker Member both have the same orientation and may be related as precursor deposits when the ice-front was further south (Powell et al., 1992; Cooper and Burgess, 1993).
