| Lithological Description: |
The Little Weighton Marls or the 'Conoco Marls' of Barker et al., (1984), are three thin marl seams (typically 2 cm) within 2 to 3 m of chalk. The lower two of the three marls are thought to correlate with the paired East Cliff or Shoreham Marls of the Southern Province. The upper of these two marls (corresponding with Little Weighton Marl 2) is taken to mark the base of the Hagenowia rostrata Zone, which corresponds approximately with the base of the Micraster coranguinum Zone of the Southern Province. |
