| Lithological Description: |
Pelitic, semipelitic and psammitic rocks containing numerous characteristic ribs of pure white quartzite. Locally contains carbonate or graphite. |
| Definition of Lower Boundary: |
Gradational boundary with Dunalastair Semipelite Formation; boundary taken at base of first quartzite rib. |
| Definition of Upper Boundary: |
Transitional boundary with Beoil Schist Formation; boundary taken at top of last quartzite rib. |
| Thickness: |
0 - 30m; probably much tectonic thinning. |
| Geographical Limits: |
Main development in Strath Fionan [NN 7257 7556]. Also occurs sporadically in attenuated form as far west as Allt Druidhe [NN 6423 5693] and as far east as the Allt Kynachan [NN 7775 5723]. Not present east of the Loch Tay Fault, where it may have been tectonically excised;however some of the rocks of the 'Banvie Burn Series' may be equivalent. |
