DIC_ROCK_ALL (3677 rows)
Dictionary table based on the entire version 3 of the BGS Rock Classification Scheme and is populated directly from the 3 supplying tables (BGS.ROCK_NAME_V3, BGS.ROCK_COMPOSITE and BGS.DIC_ROCK_DUMMY). It contains both the base rock names and addditional codes required for specific application, eg. composite names for use on digital geological maps. It is formally approved as the official source of ALL database codes to be used in BGS corporate databases and MUST be followed.

In the Rock Classification Scheme, it is a pyroxene-peridotite with olivine 40 - 90%, orthopyroxene 5 - 55% and clinopyroxene 5 - 55% of olivine + orthopyroxene + clinopyroxene. British Geological Survey Research Report RR/99/06, section 5.1 and figs. 15, 16. | Lherzolite | C | GRBA | 24-FEB-00 | TMCM | 22-FEB-19 | R | |
| 1084 | LIGN | RN | Lignite - A type of coal. It is a member of the pure humic coal series. The members of the pure humic coal series can be ranked in order as peat (the unlithified form), lignite, bituminous-coal, and anthracite (the lithified forms) based on increasing carbon content and decreasing volatile content. Lignite is a consolidated, dull, soft brown to black coal with many readily discernible plant fragments set in a finer-grained organic matrix. It tends to crack and fall apart on drying. Lignite may be further classified into brown-lignite and black-lignite.
